A SIMPLE Golf Lesson on ANGULAR MOMENTUM // This DRILL Works! #golftips #golfswing #golfinstruction
This golfer came to me complaining about back pain and the amount of EFFORT he felt like he was using to hit the golf ball. He struggled with a very LOW ball flight, and was also struggling with LOW POINT CONTROL!
He hadn’t taken a lesson in a long time and didn’t want to get technical. I’ve always believed that a SIMPLE approach is the best approach and it didn’t take long to help him improve his overall CONCEPT of how to swing a golf club.
Over the course of 90 minutes we spent time working on his GRIP, CLUB FACE awareness and most importantly ANGULAR MOMENTUM. His swing was completely BODY driven and he had never really FELT the club head at all playing golf before!
As soon as we worked on the TRAIL ARM DRILL he immediately started sequencing his ARM SWING with his BODY PIVOT. A light bulb went off and he started realizing there was a way to swing EASY, avoid BACK PAIN and importantly create MORE CLUB HEAD SPEED!
The student was hitting the ball a lot higher after the DRILLS and he mentioned that his back wasn’t sore after the lesson! Mission Accomplished!!
Thanks for WATCHING, LIKING, COMMENTING and of course SUBSCRIBING to my UA-cam Channel! I’m grateful for the continued support!
Best, Coach A. 🏌️‍♂️⛳️🙏🏻

Using your WRISTS in the Golf Swing! // HOW and WHY?! #golfinstruction #golftips #golfswing
Переглядів 4,8 тис.19 годин тому
Today’s video is all about WRIST MECHANICS. With the help of my friends at HACKMOTION GOLF I explain not only HOW you should use your WRISTS in the golf swing, but also WHY?! The vast majority of golfers don’t have a clue how to articulate their WRISTS. The hands are your only connection to the golf club so it’s important to understand the role the wrists play in the golf swing. Using HACKMOTIO...

"kinesthetic response" captures how movement in one part of the body, like the arms, can naturally and dynamically engage the rest of the body. Despite the usual kinetic chain sequence, this kinesthetic response allows the body to adapt and move fluidly in response to the arm movements. Did this drill today at the range -- major difference in feel -- much looser swing after doing it with both hands, alternating -- the drill gives you a relaxed free swing, almost better than using the yellow or orange golf aid. Thank You!

    Hi Andy, what a great and sensible approach to getting some club head speed without traumatising the body! I’m 74 and just recovering from a tin and fib break on my right ankle. Body dynamics cannot be on my agenda anymore. Your description and explanation of transition and going through by mainly just using the arms and hands is a gem!! Currently all my irons go about the same distance, 150 yards and I’ll be trying this as soon as possible. Many thanks once again, Regards, John , near Brighton UK

I went down the body driven path and even in good shape in my early 30's I realized I would not be playing golf for very long like that, talk about being hard on the body. A question I’ve had forever. Is the release passive and gravity driven as the swing on the right side? Or should I be exerting force in my wrists to release the club? Been confused about that forever. Can someone help me with that? Thank you.

    • @AndrewEmeryGolf
      @AndrewEmeryGolf День тому

      I would say ‘force’ in the wrists isn’t the right approach! However in my experience ‘educating’ the arms and wrists is essential! Once you have an understanding of how the club head responds, by integrating simple drills into practice - you can start to allow it to happen naturally. Best, Coach A. 🏌️‍♂️⛳️🙏🏻

      A salient point that with respect doesn’t apply in this case. A dynamic reaction to a closed face is to tip (hang back to add loft) and/or swing excessively inside out. This golfer does neither which is why he hits its very low shots that predominantly hook. Best, A. 🏌️‍♂️⛳️🙏🏻

    My thinking to simplify all of this. Get out of the weeds… Us strong grippers, have built in more room for the wrist to turn down with our swing naturally. I really don’t like to do the flip over of the wrist at contact, as that requires perfect timing. I just like to relax as much as possible and let the club go pretty fast at contact. I hit my drives in the 250 range at 70 years old, with very solid contact… The noise of the Ping driver is pretty loud at contact.. Not a new gaziliion $$$$ one, that is… G30, firm shaft, set at 0… Callaway Big Bertha Irons, firm graphite.. Found out years ago I couldn’t buy a golf swing. Had to practice, put the time in to develop one, that works with what I have with my body…. I practice 2 days a week, and play one day… All spaced out a day apart because of arthritis and soreness in finger joints…

    Andrew- I agree with what you’re saying. How about those of us, like myself, that have arthritis really bad in our fingers. For myself a right handed golfer, unfortunately it’s in my right hand. So it’s impossible for me to grip the club in my fingers with that hand. I also have to use a Jumbomax medium tour grip. I’ve found these long ago when they first came out, and only had a wrap type grip. I also wear one of those Bionic gloves on my right hand that have the pads built into the joints in the fingers. I’m in the slightly closed stance camp, that swings in to out, with my back to the target, as long as possible, to stop the over the top, and swinging across the ball. I like to feel full extension at and beyond impact. I noticed I had some cupping at the top. What would you suggest that would help that I could build into my swing? I try to keep my right wrist bent backwards at the top, like I have a platter of food I’m serving. This helps some. But my misses are to the right sometimes. However I’m hitting the ball solid in the middle of the club face, use foot powder spray on club head… What’s helped is to line the face to the middle of the fairway, slightly closed, even though I’m swinging out a few degrees to the right…. I’m more of a 3 knuckle grip golfer on lead hand…. Thanks for all you do to help….

      Just jumped on and saw your comment! Welcome aboard! I coach a bunch of good players with strong grips. You gotta dial down the full swings inside of 175. 3/4 shots with a ‘supported’ release pattern! And, anything longer than 175 - a ‘pull fade’ release pattern will be money! Your grip is a natural ‘closer’, as long as you can manage and offset that by matching the appropriate release pattern you can play awesome! Best, Coach A. ⛳️🏌️‍♂️🙏🏻

    • @AndrewEmeryGolf
      @AndrewEmeryGolf 6 днів тому

      Yes sir, in the ‘old country’ that would be correct!! One elevates and de-elevates in a lift!! One uses a sidewalk as a pavement, and one uses ‘eye’ glasses as glasses to see one’s golf ball!! 🇺🇸🤣

    Oh man I love the 0:30 Hackmotion plug. You can just tell he was talking to the cameraman/team: "what the f... is this thing called again? motion slice? hack-ee-whack? What? Hackmotion? Who makes this stuff up... anyway!" due to the video editting.

    Awesome video. So would you say the “throw the clubhead” and actually almost trying to get an early cupped wrist feeling to release the clubhead is causing my inconsistency?

    • @AndrewEmeryGolf
      @AndrewEmeryGolf 7 днів тому

      Throwing the club is of course a feel not a ‘real!’ I’ve talked about using the arms and actuating the wrists a lot in my videos. However moving the lead wrist into extension in the transition is not advisable! It’s a face opener and steepener, neither of which is going to help you! The lead wrist moves into extension as the club re-hinges post impact! Not before!! Best, Coach A. 🏌️‍♂️⛳️🙏🏻

    Excellent video. I love common sense golf, good old fashion, common sense teaching without all the silly tech... I cringe at some tech out there...the brain can't wrap itself around data of a wrist that is 3 degrees cupped at the top. Technology can screw up players swings into "analysis paraylsis" and I quit golf for years due to that. I see it all the time on the range and course. Just my opinion...Teaching today has gone way overboard with technology...best instructors are those that can look at someone's swing and know whats needs improvement, ... like you can. It's the reason my instructor now is old school and teaches by sight, not technology. Because of his common sense instruction, I have finally reached my goal of being a single digit handicap and outdriving most men from the whites at 67 yrs old. Something to be said for the old school golf instruction. I do love your videos... You're an awesome instructor....keep it up.

    I think of Steve Stricker too when it comes to club face control as he maintains that square set up through his swing. I wonder how the hack motion would measure his wrists as they don’t seem to move.🤔

    Just came across your channel. I like it because this is how I learnt to play as a junior. However, I’m looking at most of your videos, you don’t appear to cover the backswing which is my problem. I have an overswing especially with the longer clubs. Can you please cover this ? I have tried a shorter backswing but my swing speed lowers and I don’t feel I have enough room to hit the ball. Thanks

    Hello Coach A, Due to life events, I've been playing golf off and on for decades. Early on, I wasted my money on golf instructions from a bad instructor; and I've been self taught ever since. (There are not many instructors in my area.) When I needed help with my swing, I turned to UA-cam. Let's just say that, some are better than others. Now that I am retired, I am playing more and trying to improve my game. Thankfully, I recently stumbled upon your channel. I've searched for years and this is the best video that I have found on the principles, goals and timing of a simple, yet very effective golf swing. Very well done Sir! Please keep up your great work of sharing your wisdom of the golf swing with us. Thank you once again...

    holy smokes I like your videos on increasing club head speed with hands arms wrists but this one is too much info for a short chip shot. I lock my arms to my body and rock and twist with my knees and legs. Arms hands locked to body this gives me a quarter very low back swing on coming back i allow my arms to unlock at impact and follow thru.I started doing this recently and I now feel very confident with 40 yards on in to edge of green. I use 7, 8,9 pw depending on distance. If I am just off the green I never unlock arms all movement created by one knee beding in and one leg straightening
